There are different breast implant types available in the market including saline, silicone, smooth breast, round breast, textured breast and anatomical breast implants. Silicone gel implants
These types have silicone substances which often vary in firmness and consistency. They are normally pre-filled before being inserted. The advantages of the silicone include:
· They can withstand wrinkles that other different types of implants
· They are recommended because of their long history of safety
· The silicone gel implants are available in anatomical (contoured) shapes (also referred to as the teardrop shape) or round shapes.
· They are very pliable (supple) and soft implant filler. This allows for easy movement, giving the woman a natural feel.
Most of the silicone gel ones fitted features a textured surface that often reduces risks of excessive movement. This helps to avoid problems of hardening arising from capsular contracture. The silicone gel that is often used in the cohesive gel implants are firmer when compared with the gel utilized in the traditional silicone ones. As a result of the thick consistency and firmness, in the event of the shell of the implant rupturing the gel is more likely to remain inside without leaking to the surrounding tissue. Like other different types of silicone ones, the cohesive gel implants feature a soft and natural feel. Furthermore, they are unlikely to fold or wrinkle because they have the ability of retaining their integrity.
Saline implants
The saline ones feature a strong shell that is filled with sterile salt water. The shells are normally pre-filled or filled through valves once they have been inserted in the breast area. The advantages of the saline implants include:
· They are recommended because of their long history of safety
· Considering the saline solutions are similar to the body fluids, the content can be absorbed safely or excreted by the body in the event the implant splits or ruptures.
The saline ones may deflate or rupture soon after they are fitted. Furthermore, they are prone to folding or wrinkling. They are available in round shapes but not in breast shapes or anatomical shapes. They may also not feel as soft and natural as the silicone implants.
